Social Networking – Fifteen Minutes

I will admit, I’m not a social networking master, but I did make my way up through Friendster, had a profile on MySpace before it became the band and pornstar networking mega-site. I never thought I’d spend that much time on Facebook (was scared it would become a time-suck), but recently a client had me do some research and propose some marketing ideas using that network. (Yes, I was paid to spend time on Facebook and I am amazed by the number of people that I know there).

But the site I spent the most time on is LinkedIn.

I’m a LinkedIn poweruser, having a network of more than 3,600 contacts and am a member of the LinkedIn LIONS (LinkedIN Open Networkers) and MyLink500. I find the site useful for business development and to get to know people I meet and might want to work with.

Occasionally, I also Twitter.

You might be wondering, how much time do I spend networking on social networking sites. The answer, not more than 15 minutes. And that’s been pretty consistent for the past year or so. Occasionally, it’ll take me longer but I try to keep it to 15 minutes since there are more valuable uses of my time.
