Attended Games for Change 101 Workshop
Yesterday, I had the privelege of attending the Games for Change 101 Workshop. The workshop provided an overview of the gaming industry and is designed for non-for-profits interested in raising awareness of their social issue using games – whether traditional (board), online or console-based.
Presentations highlights were those by Alan Gershenfeld of E-Line Ventures, Barry Joseph of Global Kids and Colleen Macklin of Parsons PETLab and Brenda Brathwaite of the Savanna College of Art and Design
At the end of the day, we were assigned groups and designed a game around a different social issue. While I would normally choose Public Health, I joined the Global Conflict group and helped design a board game called Kandy, The Last Kingdom of Hats, based on the conflict in Sri Lanka. Out of a field of 10 teams, we placed third (GO TEAM!).
Overall, a great experience that inspired a lot of ideas for biological, biotech and medical literacy. I was sorry I couldn’t attend the rest of the conference.
The Twitter Feed from the Conference is available, just search at http://twitter.com/#search?q=g4c.
