Attended NY Tech Meetup Showcase

2009 June 4
by Karl Schmieder

On Tuesday, June 2, I walked over to the Fashion Institute of Technology campus and entered an auditorium buzzing with activity. Four rows of tables had been arranged down the length of the room and were surrounded by a throng looking to see the newest online technologies from a group of New York Tech Meetup graduates. Given the crowd, the space, time constraints, running into a number of friends and being introduced to friends by friends, I was only able to check out a few of the demos and talk to a few of the company founders.

I had a chance to speak to the guys at Pivotal Tracker. That application is one of the many project management tools out there but it looks to compete with PlanHQ, and is much more detail oriented than Basecamp. I used to be a Basecamp user but never felt it worked for me and my distributed teams. If I have the time, I’ll spend time testing Pivotal Tracker and will write about it here.
