John Garrison is a principal at MessagingLab and serves as engagment manager on many of the firm's client projects. John has more than fifteen years of experience bringing marketing, naming, branding, and corporate strategy expertise to clients ranging from Fortune 100 to small business to the nonprofit sector. John has worked closely with leadership from Sony Electronics, Hilton Hotels, Polo Ralph Lauren, Hewlett Packard, Nestle Purina, Yahoo!, Gap Inc, Business for Social Responsibility, and many other best practice organizations. Prior to joining MessagingLab, John held positions in the market research arm of the Worldwide Xceed Group and the global strategies division of Levi Strauss & Co. He is a member of the Modern Language Association, American Name Society, and the Pacific Ancient and Modern Language Association. John has been featured in Advertising Age, Business 2.0, Bloomberg Television, and the Oxygen Network. His work also appears in a variety of scholarly journals. John holds a B.A. in English and an M.B.A. in Marketing. A published science fiction writer and champion ballroom dancer, John lives in San Francisco.
Karl Schmieder is a principal at MessagingLab. Karl has more than fifteen years experience helping companies develop and implement communications strategies that focus on establishing a distinctive market presence. Karl has worked with the Z to A of biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies and has provided branding and naming consulting to Antex Biologics, Gambro BCT, Intel Corporation, the Lee Iaccoca Foundation, Logitech, Openwave and Yahoo! among many others. Before joining MessagingLab, Karl served as Vice President of Digital Branding at the Worldwide Xceed Group where he worked on such consumer brands as Planet Hollywood, Reader's Digest and UBS. Prior to that, Karl worked at Noonan/Russo Communications where he provided marketing communications consulting to biotechnology, medical device and pharmaceutical companies. He is a member of the American Name Society, the Art Directors Club, the Medical Device Manufacturers Association and the New York Biotechnology Association. Karl holds an M.S. in biochemistry and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing. He is fluent in Spanish, French and German. He has also studied Finnish, Italian, Nauhtl, Sanskrit and Portuguese. An active surfer, skateboarder and long-time yoga practitioner, Karl lives in Brooklyn with his wife and three sons. |
