Are you worried about the future glut of obituaries in national newspapers? asks Jason Kottke at his seminal Kottke.org. He wonders if the New York Times obituary section will swell to 30 pages.
It’s probably just a matter of time before someone starts aggregating all the obituaries and you’ll be able to subscribe to them – vis RSS or some future technology – to be kept up to date of those people you cared about or were influenced by.
“Will we be in a constant state of mourning?” Jason asks. Well, mourning ain’t what it used to be. It seems like every time a celebrity dies, it’s just another column inch or two, something to IM your friends about or to reflect on your own mortality – if that much.
Mourning is something very personal, reserved for our friends and family. Not the 250 celebrities that died today.
