Two-thirds of Americans Concerend About Medical Records Privacy

November 9th, 2005 · No Comments

That’s according to the California Healthcare Foundation’s most recent survey.

Interestingly, the CHCF had conducted a similar study in 1999 that showed 3/4s of Americans were concerned with their medical record confidentiality.

The new study shows that despite federal protections under HIPAA, 66% are concerned about the confidentiality of their personal health information and are largely unaware of their privacy rights. This is disconcerting because HIPAA makes it easier for physicians to share medical data than previously.

For more information on HIPAA and privacy, check out the Health Privacy Project’s page on the subject.
